SPIRIT DSP Releases H.264/VP8 Transcoding Server

Feb 20, 2014. SPIRIT DSP, the world’s No. 1 voice and video over IP engines provider serving more than one billion users in over 100 countries, announced today the launch of TeamSpirit® Transcoding Server, its new VVoIP software product.

This useful software product offers cost-effective interoperability between different real-time voice and video communication tools and services. It was designed by SPIRIT specially for service providers, telcos, unified communications and video conferencing providers.

In the lack of commonly accepted HD voice and video standard on the Internet today, TeamSpirit Transcoding Server enables cost-effective interoperability that makes possible HD voice and video calls to/from different soft- and hardware video conferencing products, which are based on popular codecs using inexpensive commodity PC servers.

It also delivers high-performance transcoding to multiple bitrates for adaptive streaming. Video transcoding for H.263, H.264, H.265 and VP8 is provided, as well as the voice transcoding for SPIRIT IP-MR™ (IETF RFC 6262), G.711, G.722, G.723.1, G.726, G.729AB, G.722.1, GSM AMR-NB, GSM AMR-WB, iLBC, SILK.

TeamSpirit Transcoding boasts high scalability with up to 400 concurrent voice calls (sessions, each occupies two server ports) and up to 50 VGA concurrent video calls on a standard PC server (Intel, 3.1GHz). It also decreases patent royalties for software end-points. With the help of TeamSpirit Transcoding, telcos and service providers avoid most of standard codec patent payments for (millions of) end-points and pay for standard codec patents only for (thousands of) server channels. SPIRIT product also reduces the server hardware infrastructure costs tenfold in comparison with traditional conferencing systems.
